Why the Partnership?
Due to unwarranted public criticism, the future of higher education is
being threatened. Through reduced appropriations and misrepresentations,
the jobs of faculty and staff in Alabama's universities are being challenged.
The Higher Education Partnership provides you a means of addressing this
challenge. The time is now to take a stand and support this Partnership.
- For the faculty and staff of Alabama's universities to take a stand
that their work is important and merits strong state support.
- For every Alabamian to take a stand that Alabama's economic development
and quality of life depends on our higher education
- For students to take a stand for adequate state funding to keep tuition
affordable.
The Reason:
- Instead of being applauded for their work, Alabama's universities are
forced to fight to prevent appropriations from being reduced, facilities
from being closed and accomplishments from being overlooked.
- The result of the reduced support for higher education is catastrophic
for our state.
- Fewer of our citizens will have the opportunity to prepare for competition
in the world's changing economy.
- Alabama's institutions and the livelihood of their employees are being
threatened by reduced appropriations and misrepresentations.
- The decline in public appreciation for higher education is making it
difficult for universities to recruit quality students and maintain a top
faculty.
- Faculty and staff are required to work for low salaries and in out-dated
facilities.
- Alabama families and students are forced to make even greater sacrifices
because of increasing tuition costs.
- The state of Alabama's future depends on all of us.
- We now have an opportunity to take a stand and get involved in an organization
designed to lead the effort to protect higher education.
The organization is the Higher Education Partnership and your are
the winner.
| The Strength of the Partnership |
- With over 180,000 students, a half-million alumni, and scores of faculty
and staff members, Alabama's public four-year institutions have a tremendous
impact on the state's economy and culture.
- The Partnership can change the current negative trends in support for
higher education and help move our universities into the twenty-first century
stronger than ever.
- The Higher Education Partnership will provide a base to unite our constituency
to ensure that our universities remain strong and viable, enabling them
to provide quality education for generations to come.
- Your Responsibility:
The downward trend in public support for higher education can be reversed
in Alabama if all the stake holders unite in this partnership. Join today
and get involved!
- The Result:
The Partnership with a base of members from the faculty/staff, student,
alumni and business communities, will be a strong advocate. The Partnership
will represent large numbers of citizens and will communicate a positive
message.
- Political leaders will respond to the large, organized and active membership.
- Business leaders will join forces to protect one of Alabama's chief
economic development resources.
- The general public will once again be proud of the success of Alabama's
four year, publicly assisted universities.
THE DOWNWARD TREND OF PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR HIGHER EDUCATION
CAN BE REVERSED IN ALABAMA IF ALL THE STAKE HOLDERS UNITE IN PARTNERSHIP.
