STARS, which is an acronym for Student Teams Advocating Realistic Solutions,
provides students an opportunity to advocate for higher education. There
is strength in numbers and this program gives students the strength they
need to have their views heard.
"As we approach the next two years, the subject of funding for
higher education will, no doubt, be one of the top items on the
|
political agenda. We know, too, a cut in higher education funding leads
to higher tuition, larger classes and many other serious issues," stated
Gordon Stone, Executive Director of the Partnership. This is why STARS is
so important.
While the Higher Education Partnership will assist, each STARS group
will be responsible for events that take place on their campus. Students
will be encouraged to contact their university's governmental affairs office
to seek ways to support their campus.
STARS will provide students with educational opportunities as well as
leadership opportunities. If your campus is interested in having a STARS
group, contact the Higher Education Partnership at 334/832-9911 .
