STARS and ASA Plan Statewide Campus
Voter Registration Drives
|
Student's serving on the Alabama Student Association and/or the STARS
committee will meet in Montgomery on November 7, 1997. ASA will hold its
quarterly meeting at 3:00 p.m.. Following the ASA session, STARS will meet
for the purpose of planning voter registration drives on university campuses.
The Partnership will assist campus representatives as they prepare to hold
voter registration campaigns.
The purpose of the campaigns will be to remind students of their civic
responsibility and their constitutional right, as a citizen of Alabama,
to have a voice in the political process. Voter registration forms will
be available for all students.
As students graduate from high school and college, they often forget
to exercise their right to vote. Therefore, the Secretary of State has made
it easy to register.

|
Ed Packard of the Secretary of State's office says voter registration
drives are simple to set up. Students need to be sure applications are filled
out correctly to avoid delays in processing. Plus, they need to be sure
where they desire to vote. For example, if they plan to vote in their home
town, the application will need to be mailed to the courthouse in that county.
Lastly, applications should be filed in a timely manner.
STARS and ASA representatives are encouraged to attend this meeting.
