Higher Education Rally Set for March 5,
1998
|
Montgomery, AL---
Students and faculty from universities across the state will
participate in Higher Education Week, March 2 - 6, 1998. The week is being
highlighted by STARS (Student Teams Advocating Realistic Solutions). The
Higher Education Partnership also is promoting March 5, 1998 as Higher Education
Day.
The purpose of the week is to show our state legislators that supporters
of higher education mean business. Each university has planned different
events for their campus. Each event is focused on the impact that higher
education has on the overall success of the state of Alabama.
Voter Registration Drives
Students have an equal opportunity to vote and decide who
our next political leaders will be; therefore, a main emphasis for Higher
Education Week will be campus voter registration drives. Voter registration
sites will be set up on each campus in order to make registration easy and
convenient ... and it really is easy. All you will need to do is fill out
the necessary postcard. |
Voter registration leaders will make sure all forms are mailed
to the county courthouse which you have indicated as your voting preference.
Higher Education Day Plans
The week will reach its high point with Higher Education
Day on March 5th. This day will include a rally in Montgomery (see invitation
inside). The success of this rally and the impact on the Legislature and
the Governor is going to be up to you supporters of higher education.
This year is an election year. We need a large attendance at this rally.
The larger the number, the greater the support for higher education. We
need to let our political leaders know of our concern for the future of
higher education. PLEASE MAKE YOUR PLANS TO ATTEND THIS RALLY!!!
STARS is an organization involved in encouraging students
to become advocates for higher education. For information of events planned
on your campus for the week of March 2 - 5th, contact your schools
SGA office or the Partnership. If you are interested in helping with the
rally, contact the Higher Education Partnership at 334/832-9911. |
