CEO Of SouthTrust Corporation Offers Opportunity To Increase
Partnership Membership

All members of the Higher Education Partnership have been offered the opportunity to maximize the value of organizational membership. During the next three months, the Partnership has a chance to double the return on every new member received.
This tremendous offer has been provided by the newest member of the Higher Education Partnership’s Board of Directors, Mr. Wallace Malone of SouthTrust Corporation. Mr. Malone is prepared to match dollar for dollar (up to $25,000) each new membership gained during the months of March, April, and May.
His generous offer is not only a great way to increase the financial strength of the Partnership, it is also a strong signal to the state’s other business leaders. Mr. Malone is letting the entire state know that SouthTrust Corporation believes in the importance of public universities. Further, his willingness to support the Partnership serves as a challenge to his peers. Partnership leaders understand that other business leaders will be watching how the organization responds to this challenge.
Gordon Stone, executive director of the Higher Education Partnership, said, “The Partnership and its membership of faculty, staff, students, alumni and other supporters are thrilled with Mr. Malone’s offer. He has shown his strong endorsement of university education. We are grateful for the support and are motivated to make sure the value of the investment is maximized. The Higher Education Partnership and SouthTrust Corporation are committed to enhancing the value of Alabama’s public universities. After all, Alabama’s student population represents our best and brightest hope for tomorrow.”
All Partnership members are committed to showing Mr. Malone that his faith is well placed. Therefore, the group is seeking to add at least 2100 new members by June 1. There are many ways to achieve this goal. However, all of them require “peer to peer” solicitation. Every current member is requested to approach at least five non-members and ask them to join. A 20% positive response to these personal invitations will “make it happen.”
To make it easy to solicit five people, the Partnership has developed a package of five membership flyers that are available to all members. The flyers provide a simple and convenient way to recruit membership. Plus, the flyers can be reproduced on any standard copier if a person would like to solicit more than five new members. Also, the Partnership has membership forms and other descriptive information available for downloading from our website: www.higheredpartners.org.
