I would like to thank each and every individual
student who came to Montgomery on April 8th. As you probably
know, Higher Education Day was a huge success. We had students
traveling from Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Mobile, Troy,
Jacksonville, and other cities across the state of Alabama. Many
of you traveled great distances to come to Montgomery because
you care. You care about the future of higher education in this
state! It is so important that students take an active role in fighting for our higher education institutions. I would like to reemphasize what I said on that Thursday, and say that students can really make a difference. Our voice is larger than you might think. And I think the Governor and Legislature realize the strength of our voice. |
If you were able to come to Higher Education
Day, I would like to challenge you to continue your fight for
higher education in this state. If you have not gotten involved
in this fight yet, its time to get started. The best way
to start is by joining the Higher Education Partnership. Its
only $5 for students and $12 for faculty/staff and it helps to
pay for the information the Partnership sends to its members.
In addition, Mr. Wallace Malone of South Trust Corporation has
offered to match every new membership we receive up until June
1st. So now is the perfect time to join! Higher education is finally moving in the right direction in this state. But it is up to us to keep it that way. Once again, thanks to all who attended Higher Education Day. Because of your interests and concerns, we will see brighter days up ahead for higher education in this state.
